Categories: There will be four categories for the competition:
- Cookies: All cookies are accepted in this category.
- Cakes: All types of cakes and cupcakes are accepted in this category.
- Pies & Pastries: Both single and double crusts are acceptable. All sweet fillings are acceptable. All pies are to be of the dessert variety; no meat pies. All sweet pastries are accepted in this category.
- Kitchen Sink: If your dessert does not fall in the categories above it fits in this one, everything but the kitchen sink! This may be any type of dessert!
Participants may enter one baked good per category. Only 13 slots are available in each category, so sign up ahead of time to secure your spot.
Judging criteria: Each category will have a first place winner, judged on taste, appearance, and creativity. Taste and appearance will each be worth 40% of the overall score, while creativity will be worth 20%. The judges will take into account the quality of the ingredients, the texture and flavor of the baked good, its presentation, and any unique or interesting aspects of the recipe or technique used.
Disclosure: Participants must disclose any allergens that they may have used in their dessert.
Participation: There is no age limit for the competition. Children are encouraged to participate as long as they actively participate in baking the dessert.
Presentation: Participants must bring their baked goods to church the morning of April 30. Each entry must be accompanied by a label that includes the name of the baked good and a list of ingredients.
Judging process: The judges will taste each entry and evaluate them based on the criteria listed above. The judges' decisions will be final.
Prizes: First place winners in each category will receive a prize determined by the organizers of the competition.
Disqualification: Entries that do not meet the eligibility requirements, that contain inappropriate or offensive content, or that are submitted after the deadline will be disqualified.
Liability: Participants are responsible for ensuring that their baked goods are safe to consume and do not contain any harmful or illegal substances. UPC will not be held liable for any injuries or illnesses that may result from consuming the baked goods.
Publicity: By participating in the competition, participants agree to allow the organizers to use their name, photograph, and any other information provided for promotional purposes.
